AUPE works to get retroactive pay to Multi GSS members
EDMONTON – The Aspen, East Central, David Thompson and Peace Country health regions are currently working through the payroll records of approximately 5,000 general support service employees to match their hours paid with the increased pay rates in the employees’ new AUPE collective agreement.
This process has caused delays in the payment of retroactive pay to AUPE members, and this has caused concern among members, said AUPE Staff Negotiator Malcolm McNaughton.
“AUPE is working with the employers to get this resolved as quickly as possible,” McNaughton said. “We’re going over salary rates and classifications with the employers to make sure their list and our list match, to guarantee that our members get the salary they are entitled to and receive their retroactive pay as quickly as possible.”
GSS members employed by the four health regions ratified a new four-year multi-employer collective agreement on Aug. 23.
Members of Locals 056, 057 and 047/017 voted in a mail-in ballot to accept a provincially appointed mediator’s recommended terms of settlement. Under the agreement, most employees will receive pay raises of 12 per cent over the four-year term. The agreement also included increased shift and weekend differential pay and double overtime for all employees.
The new agreement, which consolidated 13 contracts into one, expires on March 31, 2008.
