AUPE supports striking McKesson workers

Posted August 25, 2010 in Union Updates and tagged with mckesson

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees is encouraging members to support UFCW Local 401’s two-month-long strike against McKesson Canada Corporation. The Edmonton warehouse workers – who have been without a contract since early 2009 – have been on strike since Jun. 28, 2010.

AUPE members are encouraged to join the picket line at 4:30 p.m. today at 10931 – 177 Street in Edmonton.

“Members of our Executive, our committees and our activists have already visited the McKesson line this summer,” said AUPE President Guy Smith.

“Our union has a long tradition of supporting those on strike, I encourage our members to visit the McKesson workers and show solidarity,” he added.

Workers are looking for wage parity with their fellow employees at other McKesson worksites across Canada.

Better benefits, restrictions on the use of temporary workers and anti-harassment language are also being requested. The employer has come back with an offer of $0.80 over two years.

AUPE members have stood with UFCW in the past,” said Smith. “From support through the Lakeside Packers strike, Old Dutch and now McKesson, members of UFCW Local 401 have AUPE on their side.” Smith added.

More information on the UFCW 401/McKesson strike can be found at AUPE headquarters.

McKesson picket line locations can be found at: 10931 – 177 Street (main warehouse) and 18503 – 107 Avenue in Edmonton.
