AUPE supports striking Edmonton Catholic School Board employees

Posted September 13, 2012 in Education and tagged with strike

EDMONTON – President Guy Smith asked all AUPE members to show their support for the support employees who have gone on strike to secure a reasonable collective agreement from the Edmonton Catholic School Board.

“I encourage our members to show their support for the workers on strike at Edmonton Catholic Schools by visiting the picket line at the board office,” said Smith.

The picket line is located just east of the Legislature grounds at 9807 – 106 Street.

AUPE represents maintenance and custodial staff employed by the Edmonton Catholic School Board. Those employees are not on strike, but AUPE has advised those members not to perform the duties of the employees who are on strike.

“I encourage our members working for Edmonton Catholic Schools to visit the picket line before and after their shifts, whenever they have time to do so,” Smith said.

“These employees have taken a brave, but necessary step to secure a fair agreement, and they need our support.”
