AUPE reminds Albertans of public sector’s value in Superbowl commercial

Posted January 29, 2009 in Union Updates and tagged with advertising, another day

EDMONTON – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees is reviving last summer’s successful television advertising campaign during this weekend’s Superbowl game.

With the provincial budget now being discussed by MLAs and the difficult economic conditions being experience worldwide, AUPE decided it was time to remind Albertans of the valuable programs and services its members deliver every day.

The TV commercial, which stars real AUPE members, was broadcast frequently last summer. By running the ad again on Superbowl Sunday, the union will get its positive message out to a broad audience for a low cost.

It is estimated that the Superbowl advertisement will reach over 370,000 Albertans when it airs on Sunday.

Although the summer advertising campaign reached many, its message is as relevant now as ever and the cost of broadcasting it in Alberta only during a key event like the Superbowl allows the union to reach a wide audience for a small fraction of the original campaign’s cost.

AUPE’s Superbowl advertisment will air on CTV stations broadcasting out of Edmonton and Calgary. The broadcast should be available in all communities in Alberta, with the exception of some homes in Lloydminster.
