AUPE president thanks public employees who serve Albertans during holiday
EDMONTON—Guy Smith, the president of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, has thanked all public employees who must spend the holiday season away from their own families to serve other Albertans.
In his 2009 holiday message, Smith noted that many AUPE members and other public employees must spend time away from their families to ensure that others’ families may be served, assisted and protected.
“So with this year’s holiday greetings to all members of AUPE, and all Albertans, it is important to recognize the special contribution of those dedicated public workers who toil through the holiday season,” Smith said.
“We should all express our gratitude to these dedicated public employees in the government service, health care, education and many other areas who give up time with their families to ensure that the rest of us can enjoy the season in safety, comfort and confidence,” he said.
While the rest of us enjoy this time with our families, assured that public services will continue uninterrupted, these public employees will be “doing a host of important jobs the need for which never changes with the season.”
“So, I say, thanks to each of you and all of you. By giving up time with your own families at this family time of year, you are making Alberta a better place for all of us and our families,” Smith said.
