AUPE president in Medicine Hat for information picket

Posted January 24, 2006 in Health Care and tagged with chapter 019, local 048

MEDICINE HAT – Alberta Union of Provincial Employees President Dan MacLennan will be in Medicine Hat today to participate in an information picket by union members at the Valleyview Assisted Living and Long-Term Care facility.

MacLennan will be available to local media for interviews on the negotiations with the care facility’s operators, on yesterday’s federal general election, or other topics.

Media are welcome to come to the picket line between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at 65 Valleyview Drive in Medicine Hat, or can call MacLennan on his cellular phone at 780-232-8392 to set up an interview.

Approximately 70 AUPE members who work at the facility planned the lunch-hour information picket today to protest a lack of progress toward a fair collective agreement in negotiations with their employer.

AUPE members work in both auxiliary nursing care and general support service roles at the Valleyview facility, which is owned by AgeCare Ltd. of Calgary, a private-sector company that operates nursing homes in Alberta and British Columbia.
