AUPE President congratulates new Cabinet members
EDMONTON – Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach announced the makeup of his new Cabinet this morning, a subject of great interest to AUPE members and other public sector workers.
Shortly after the announcement, AUPE President Doug Knight expressed his hope for a future good working relationship with each of the 19 members of the new Cabinet.
“I wrote each of the new ministers today, congratulating them on their appointments and reminding them of the important upcoming negotiations between AUPE and public sector employers, including the government of Alberta,” Knight said.
“I told them all that AUPE members very much hope to continue the positive working relationship with the Government that our union has enjoyed with the province over the past several years,” he said.
“The premier said in a letter to all Alberta public service employees on Thursday that his restructuring of the government was not intended as a form of downsizing,” Knight noted. “We are please that the premier is starting out on a positive note with our members.”
