AUPE President at Lilydale line

Posted September 05, 2012 in Union Updates and tagged with lilydale, strike

AUPE President Guy Smith walked the picket line Aug. 31 with members of UFCW 1118, which represents workers at the Lilydale turkey processing plant in Edmonton. Staff at the plant are on strike following the breakdown of negotiations last week. Workers at the plant are paid less than their counterparts at other Lilydale plants in Calgary and British Columbia, and are looking for a guaranteed 72 hours every two weeks. AUPE members are encouraged to show solidarity with the workers on their picket line, which runs Monday to Friday, 6 am to 6:30 pm, at 127 Avenue and 76 Street in Edmonton.
