AUPE plans information picket tomorrow at St. Albert ATB Financial branch
EDMONTON – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees will hold an information picket at the Tudor Glen ATB Financial branch in St. Albert on Friday, Nov. 25 to support front-line staff, who are locked in a contract dispute with their employer.
“Throughout collective bargaining, this employer has refused to move from its position, which includes a base pay offer that’s below the market level, a compensation rollback and a refusal to improve job security,” said AUPE negotiator John Wevers.
ATB’s hard-line stance is particularly disrespectful in light of how hard frontline staff worked in the past year as the institution overhauled its banking system, postponing vacations and working long hours during the transition. ATB’s latest annual report notes that despite the internal upheaval and the volatile world economy, its Retail Financial Services division remained profitable and maintained a high level of customer satisfaction.
Mediation failed to break the deadlock and now AUPE has applied for arbitration. Information pickets are planned for various locations around the province.
“Management’s bargaining position disregards all of the employees’ hard work and dedication,” said AUPE President Guy Smith. “AUPE is committed to securing a collective agreement for our more than 2,000 members at Alberta Treasury Branch that reflects the valuable contributions they make to their employer and their communities.”
AUPE is Alberta’s largest union, with nearly 80,000 members in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
