AUPE passes emergency resolution to defend services from privatization; rally set for this afternoon

Posted October 14, 2011 in Union Updates, Anti-Privatization Committee

EDMONTON – Delegates to the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees’ Convention passed an emergency resolution at noon today to defend the services they provide from privatization.

AUPE members provide key public services for Albertans. We won’t stand by while programs for Albertans are under threat,” said AUPE President Guy Smith.

As many as 1,000 participants will arrive at the Legislature at 3:30 pm this afternoon to rally against privatization and celebrate the services they provide to Albertans.

The rally and resolution are a response to Premier Redford’s campaign promise to review and privatize programs across the entire government.

“Until we have the Premier’s assurance that programs are not going to be privatized it’s our duty to work with our members to defend the services they provide,” said Smith.
