AUPE members employed with the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission ratify three-year agreement

Posted August 26, 2005 in Health Care and tagged with chapter 001, local 059

Edmonton – AUPE members employed by the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC) have overwhelmingly ratified a collective agreement that includes a provision for pay increases of 9.9 per cent over a three-year term.

Their mail-in ratification ballots were counted at AUPE headquarters in Edmonton on Aug. 26.

As a result of the agreement, members of AUPE Local 059/001 will see pay increases of 3.9 per cent in the first year, three per cent in the second year and three per cent in the third year, said union Staff Negotiator Terry Agoto.

Agoto said the pay increases and many provisions of the agreement mirror the Master Agreement for direct employees of the Alberta Government that was ratified by members of AUPE Locals 001 to 012 on June 28.

The agreement with AADAC, which the bargaining committees signed on July 15, also includes:

  • The same enhancements to health benefits as in the Master Agreement for direct government employees.
  • An increase in the northern allowance for employees who work north of the 57th Parallel to $525 from $400, and extension of the allowance to include residents of Fort McMurray.
  • Clarification of how the agreement applies to employees who work a compressed work week.

Agoto said all pay increases and adjustments are retroactive to Jan. 1, 2005.

The approximately 650 AUPE members employed by the Edmonton-based AADAC include administrative assistants, addiction counselors, client care assistants, nurses and research officers working at locations throughout the province.

AADAC is an agency of the Alberta government responsible for assisting Albertans in dealing with the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and gambling.
