AUPE information picket set for Monday at Edmonton Catholic Separate School District headquarters
EDMONTON – Members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees who work for the Edmonton Catholic Separate School District plan an information picket Monday evening to urge the board not to lay off support staff.
During the information picket, which will take place during the board’s regular meeting at the Edmonton Catholic School District Administration Building, 9807 – 106th Street, members of AUPE Local 071/013 will also call on the board to rescind the layoffs earlier this year of 21 ECSSD support staff employees.
“AUPE would like the board to commit to thoroughly reviewing the operations and expenditures of the Edmonton Catholic school system, especially its plant operations and maintenance division,” said AUPE President Dan MacLennan, who will take part in the information picket.
“Among the issues the board must consider when dealing with school finances must be the cleanliness of schools, the health of children who attend them and the wellbeing of the board’s support employees,” MacLennan said.
The information picket will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Monday, May 30.
