EDMONTON – Hundreds of Auxiliary Nursing Care and General Support Service workers are holding rallies, information pickets, and meetings across the province today.

Alberta Union of Provincial Employees President Doug Knight the demonstrations of solidarity will underscore the workers’ importance to Alberta’s health system while they continue negotiation with their employers.

“It’s time the 27,000 health sector employees AUPE represents were recognized for their valuable contribution to Alberta’s health system,” said Knight.

Rallies and information pickets are taking place in Calgary, Edmonton, and Grande Prairie today, and will be followed up by further events in Red Deer, Westlock, and Peace River tomorrow.

“Collectively AUPE health sector workers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of our hospitals and provide more one-on-one care to patients than anyone else. They deserve the same financial recognition of their value that other employees have received,” Knight said.
