This week is National Public Service Week and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees is marking the occasion by celebrating and thanking its members who dedicate themselves to public service every day.
“AUPE represents more than 90,000 members province-wide who work in education, boards and agencies, health care and government services,” said AUPE president Guy Smith. “These workers are the backbone of many communities spanning the province.
“Sometimes hidden from the public eye, their presence is most visible in the difference they make in the lives of Albertans. AUPE is proud to represent those who tirelessly dedicate themselves to people-focused work and would like to take this week to turn that focus back on them,” said Smith.
The theme for National Public Service Week, which runs June 11 to 17, is Proudly Serving Canadians for 150 years, a nod to Canada’s monumental anniversary, which precedes AUPE’s Centennial in 2019.
