AUPE Carewest Maintenance members ratify new agreement

CALGARY – Maintenance employees at Carewest continuing-care facilities, members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, voted yesterday evening to ratify a new three-year collective agreement.

Approximately 25 members of AUPE Local 048/010 were eligible to vote on the new collective agreement, which includes pay increases of three per cent in each year of the contract for a total increase of nine per cent.

The agreement also includes improvements in family and bereavement leave, said AUPE Staff Negotiator Ken Cutrell, who led the union bargaining committee.

The AUPE and Carewest bargaining teams reached a tentative agreement in bargaining on Sept. 13.

The workers do maintenance and plant operation work at all Carewest facilities in the Calgary area.

Carewest is a continuing-care subsidiary of the Calgary Health Region. AUPE also represents auxiliary nursing care and general support service employees at four Carewest facilities.
