AUPE 4th Annual Golf Tournament another success

Posted August 26, 2008 in Union Updates and tagged with golf

EDMONTON – AUPE’s Fourth Annual Golf Tournament was another roaring success, putting 136 golfers on the links in support of charity.

“It was great to have so many AUPE members, staff, volunteers and sponsors come together for a worthy cause,” said AUPE President Doug Knight.

Habitat for Humanity was the beneficiary of the Aug. 23 event, which took place at Edmonton’s River Ridge Golf and Country Club. Proceeds raised will help Habitat for Humanity in its mission to increase access to affordable housing. The organization helps families in need attain home ownership using a combination of volunteer construction teams and zero-interest financing.

The tournament organizing committee extended special thanks to the volunteers and sponsors that made the event a possible.

“We wouldn’t be able to have such a wonderful event year after year without them,” said committee members Heather Yuhasz, Gil LaFlamme and Wendy Webber.

Gold sponsors included AUPE, The Personal Home and Auto Group Insurance, Johnson Inc. Insurance, Morgex Insurance and Servus Credit Union. Silver sponsors were Parmasters Golf Training Centers, Bell Mobility, and Heavenly Body Tanning & Boutique.

A raffle for a 2008 Polaris ATV rounded out the evening, with AUPE Local 056 member Lorie Olsen riding away with the prize. AUPE’s next tournament is scheduled for Aug. 22, 2009.
