Support for striking Sobeys workers urged
As members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 401 commence strike action against their employer at Sobeys Forest Lawn on 17th Ave. SE in Calgary, AUPE members are urged to show solidarity with the striking workers by not shopping at any Sobeys location until the dispute is settled.
OH&S Advocate Level 1 in Calgary
Members from southern Alberta take part in the Occupational Health and Safety Advocate Level 1 course held in Calgary Sept. 29 and 30. AUPE is piloting a system whereby all core courses are offered in Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer for the fall term.
Message to Therapy Assistants/Technical Attendants in AHS General Support Services
AUPE would like to reiterate once again the classification title in the Receiving Agreement will be changed from Technical Attendant to Therapy Assistant to better reflect the scope and kind and level of work. AHS has agreed to this and this will occur in the current round of bargaining.

EDMONTON – Employees at Devonshire Care Centre voted overwhelmingly to join the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees in an Alberta Labour Relations Board supervised vote at their worksite Sept. 26.

AUPE held a Respect in the Workplace course for members at union headquarters Sept. 28 in Edmonton. AUPE’s labour education courses are considered among the best in Canada.
