Shepherd's Care info picket

Members of AUPE Local 047 held an information picket outside the Shepherd’s Care Mill Woods Campus June 23 in Edmonton. The rally was in support of ANC and GSS staff employed at six facilities in Edmonton and northern Alberta whose negotiations have been ongoing since last summer. They are calling on the employer to end their stalling tactics.

AUPE President Guy Smith speaks with a reporter yesterday at a lunch-time rally in support of locked out postal workers who now face federal back-to-work legislation, removing their right to free collective bargaining. Hundreds of AUPE members were among the 1,200 rallying supporters in the crowd.

Edson Area Council barbeque

Edson AUPE Area Council held a barbeque on June 16, 2011. While it threatened rain and the wind was cold, the over 80 people who attended ate well and enjoyed themselves. Vice President Erez Raz took part, and the cooks were Gerald Forbes and Eric Larson, while Rose Bouchie looked after the table.

Large gathering for AUPE committee conferences

More than 500 AUPE members took part in two union conferences held June 19-21 at the Mayfield Inn in Edmonton. The information AUPE’s Human Rights and Occupational Health and Safety Conference attendees gain will be taken back to their various worksites, where they will educate more members on the importance of a diverse workplace and health and safety on the job.

Rain doesn't deter Shepherd's Care and supporters

President Guy Smith rallies the troops at an information picket outside Shepherd’s Care Kensington Village on June 18. Dozens of members from several Locals braved the torrential rain to support their brothers and sisters in Local 047, who held the picket to shed light on management’s stalling tactics at the bargaining table. An additional picket is scheduled for Shepherd’s Care Millwoods Care Centre.
