AUPE Health Sector Conference opens tomorrow in Calgary
CALGARY – Change in the workplace is the theme of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees Health Care Sector Conference, which opens tomorrow at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino.
Approximately 270 participants representing AUPE’s more than 38,000 front-line health care workers will consider such topics as working longer while growing older, elder abuse, the Alberta Health Services code of conduct from an advocacy perspective and health sector contract negotiations.
Media are welcome to attend the annual event, which opens at 9:30 a.m. with remarks from AUPE Vice-Presidents Sandy Kyle of Edmonton and Glen Scott of Calgary, both of whom are Licensed Practical Nurses.
A major concern of conference participants will be the uncertainty surrounding the delivery of health care in Alberta and the lack of resources for staffing, both of which have left Albertans feeling concerned and vulnerable, Scott said.
“The goal of the conference is to supply AUPE’s Health sector members with the information and resources they need to move forward in an era of uncertainty,” he explained.
The important event continues throughout the day tomorrow and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, June 18.
