Ponoka Save Our Services Info Picket

Posted March 31, 2010 in Health Care

One hundred and twenty one people turned out for a boisterous information picket in Ponoka on Mar. 26 in support of hospital security services. AUPE Vice-President Jason Heistad, who attended the picket, said that not only the larger centres will be affected by reduced hospital security. “Rural hospitals under this plan will be covered by a roving security detail. If an incident occurs in Olds when the nearest security officer is in Lacombe, there is literally nothing that he can do. Hospital staff will have to rely on the RCMP, who are also stretched extremely thin in rural areas. This is a lose-lose situation,” he said. Photo courtesy of Jasmine Franklin, Ponoka News.
