Local 071/010 Bargaining Committee and NorQuest College reach tentative agreement
EDMONTON – A final meeting produced a tentative agreement between the bargaining committee of Local 071/010 and NorQuest College.
AUPE President meets with Alberta NDP leader
AUPE President Guy Smith met with Alberta NDP Leader Brian Mason yesterday as part of a continued effort to engage all political parties. Smith and Mason discussed the Legislative agenda for the spring and bargaining issues affecting AUPE members.
Alberta Hospital Town Hall
It was standing room only at 27 January’s Town Hall for Alberta Hospital. About 300 people attended the event to listen to presentations by Alberta Hospital Edmonton psychiatrist Dr. Krista Leicht, University of Alberta Faculty of Nursing Professor Donna Wilson, Vancouver Police Sgt. Fiona Wilson-Bates (author of a 2008 report on the effect of inadequate mental health services on policing in Vancouver), and AUPE President Guy Smith. The meeting stressed the need to redevelop Alberta Hospital Edmonton as part of a new provincial mental health plan, and discussed the removal of over 100 long-term care beds from the system by re-purposing Villa Caritas for geriatric patients from Alberta Hospital.
Good Samaritan Society Meeting
Members of the Good Samaritan Society union caucus met Monday 25 January in preparation for a Provincial Union-Employer Joint Advisory Committee meeting. Members took in a presentation on pensions by AUPE staff member Larry Murray. The Advisory Committee meeting took place 26 and 27 January.

EDMONTON – Negotiators for the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees and Alberta Health Services have signed a tentative transitional agreement covering all Auxiliary Nursing Care staff employed by the province-wide health care superboard.
