AUPE President Doug Knight responded to suggestions Alberta’s deficit could grow beyond $7 billion on CTV news yesterday. “You can’t take it all out on government employees,” he said.
The AUPE Local 048/014 Bargaining Committee met at the union’s Calgary Regional Office to prepare for negotiation of the first collective agreement with their employer, Newport Harbour Care Centre.

EDMONTON – A memo to Alberta Public Service employees announcing a hiring freeze was not unexpected but will undoubtedly hinder the ability of the public service employees to provide the programs and services at the level expected by Albertans, says Alberta Union of Provincial Employees President Doug Knight.
The Education Subcommittee of the AUPE Members Benefit Committee were at union headquarters last week working through bursary applications. Applicants will receive a response in the coming weeks.
