Lunch-hour meeting in Stony Plain

AUPE President Doug Knight met with about 50 union members at a Nov. 27 lunch-hour pizza meeting in Stony Plain to introduce himself and discuss bargaining and other topics of interest to members. A large percentage of participants in the meeting were members of AUPE Local 006, representing social services workers directly employed by the provincial government, and a hot topic was the size of caseloads that must be carried by the local’s front-line members. Other issues discussed included upcoming bargaining for a new Master Agreement for all direct government employees between AUPE and the province, PREP appeals, and the continuing Conservative leadership race.
