ACAD employees ratify new agreement
CALGARY – Staff at the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) in Calgary, and members of Alberta Union of Provincial Employees Local 071/006, have a new collective agreement today following a ratification vote held at the worksite on Feb. 7.
The vote ratified a tentative agreement reached on Jan. 26.
AUPE represents more than 75 members at ACAD.
“We’re pleased we’ve come to a contract both sides find acceptable,” said AUPE Negotiator John Wevers.
The three-year agreement includes a two-per-cent increase retroactive to July 1, 2011, a three-per-cent increase for 2012 and 2013 (2.5 per cent effective July 1, 2012 and 0.5 per cent effective Jan. 1, 2013), and a three-per-cent increase effective July 1, 2013.
In addition, improved weekend premiums, increased monthly service recognition bonuses, and an increase of the health spending account to $650 annually, effective Jan. 1, 2012, and $700 on Jan. 1, 2013, were gained.
A wellness account will also be established with reimbursement for physical activity, healthy living and personal growth on Jan. 1, 2013.
The agreement also created reservist leave for members required to provide military service, a $750 signing bonus in 2013 for regular, temporary employees, art models and casual employees, pro-rated for part-time and casual employees, is also in the agreement.
The contract is retroactive to July 1, 2011 and expires June 30, 2014.
AUPE is Alberta’s largest union, representing close to 80,000 members. More than 8,500 AUPE members are employed in post-secondary education.
