144 golfers get into the swing of AUPE’s Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament tomorrow, Aug. 26
EDMONTON – AUPE’s Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament tees off tomorrow afternoon, Aug. 26, at Edmonton’s beautiful River Ridge Golf and Country Club.
Tournament participants are encouraged to arrive at River Ridge G&CC, 18251 – 9th Ave, no later than noon to register for the event, which is expected to be played under sunny skies with temperatures reaching 25 C.
A total of 144 golfers will tee off in a shotgun start in the Texas Scramble tourney beginning at 1:30 p.m., in an effort to raise valuable funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
“We’ve been working on the tournament for nine months, so we’re excited the big day is finally here,” said Scott Pattison, Tournament Organizer.
“This year, we’re raising important funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, so I’m hopeful everyone involved takes a moment to think of a friend or loved one who has been impacted by this insidious disease.”
AUPE registration tables will be set up just outside of the clubhouse. Once participants have confirmed their registration, they will be given a tournament goodie bag.
Golfers will also have a chance to purchase mulligan tickets at the registration table. The tickets will allow each team to knock points off their respective scores and will qualify them to win seven terrific prizes:
- Seattle/NFL Trip Package for Two
- 50” Toshiba HD Projection TV
- 2007 West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix Ticket Package
- Set of Men’s Cleveland Irons and Sleeman Golf Bag
- Jobmate Pressure Washer
- Patio Chair/Table Set
- Mayfield Dinner Theatre/Hotel Package
Following the tournament, golfers should immediately make their way to the scoring table in the River Ridge Pro Shop. Upon confirmation of registration, each player will then select a number from a box, which can be redeemed upstairs in the clubhouse at the prize table for a corresponding gift.
Dinner, primary door prize giveaways and a Silent Auction, which includes exciting items such as vacation trips, sports collectibles and furniture that include reserve bids, will follow the tournament.
“Our committee members, including Sher Bourassa, Heather Yuhasz and myself, have been beating the bushes since December to ensure every golfer walks away with a prize just for participating,” said Pattison.
Cheques, credit cards and cash will be accepted on all Silent Auction items.
Several corporations have stepped up to become primary Gold and Silver sponsors of the tournament.
They include:
- GOLD SPONSORS
- The Personal Insurance Company
- Johnson Inc./Morgex Insurance
- SILVER SPONSORS
- Bell Mobility
- American Income Life
To date, 14 AUPE Locals and/or Chapters and AUPE’s Women’s Committee have also made various contributions. They include Locals 001, 003, 004, 009, 043, 044, 044/006, 045, 046, 049, 054, 056, 060 and 118.
