AUPE marks the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

May 17 is an important day for building solidarity across difference. Established in 2004, the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is intended to draw attention to the violence, discrimination and stigma faced by lesbian, gay, transgender, intersex and bisexual people as well as all those who don’t conform to majority sexual and gender norms.

“AUPE’s Human Rights Committee is committed to working to combat prejudice experienced by our sexually diverse and gender diverse members, and all Albertans,” says AUPE Vice President and Human Rights Committee Chair Carrie-Lynn Rusznak. “Genuinely listening to the experiences of our gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender union family with compassion and solidarity is the first step to breaking down continued prejudice and discrimination.”
