Welcome from the President

Speak up! Be heard! Find your voice! Take action!

We all know how important it is for union leaders, activists and rank and file members to be able to speak their mind, to be heard and to be able to represent their passion for AUPE to their fellow workers, friends, families, and others in their work places and communities.

Nothing is more powerful than feeling confident and expressing yourself passionately about the things you deeply believe in and taking action.

However, no one is born with the ability to do so. This comes through experience, training and education.

Once again, we are providing the highest level of education through our annual Labour School. We are proud to deliver in depth and extensive training and skills development for our leaders and activists through the wide range of courses offered at Labour School.

Labour School builds upon, and enhances, the ongoing education provided throughout the year in one of the most comprehensive and ambitious training programs offered by any union in Canada.

We know education leads to knowledge, and knowledge is power – union power. And as we have seen in the past when we have had to take action together to utilize this power we can overcome any challenge.

But just as importantly, the education and knowledge gained at Labour School builds confidence in our activists and leaders to confront the daily challenges on the worksite and in the community. Now, more than ever, it is important for workers to have a voice, to be heard to help to continue to increase AUPE’s strength and solidarity.

In the attached application you will find a wide range of courses that will help you to find your voice, increase your knowledge and confidence for the future, and to take action.

No matter which course you apply for, and if your application is accepted, I encourage you to challenge yourself to get the most out of the education opportunities provided at Labour School.

In Solidarity,

Guy Smith
President, AUPE
