Members Section Play an Active Role in the AUPE AUPE depends on its members to be an effective organization. Taking part in AUPE activities and meetings allows you to have a direct voice in the direction taken by your union. Union meetings are also the best way to find out what's happening with your employer. Notices of meetings are normally posted in your workplace or mailed to your home. It's at your AUPE Local that delegates are chosen to attend the union's Annual Convention. One delegate must be chosen for every 100 members. Locals also choose delegates to other union activities, such as conferences and training programs. Ways to Get Involved in the AUPE Worksite union leaders typically serve their co-workers in one of three ways: If you're interested in becoming more active in union affairs - or if you just need more information about AUPE - call your Regional Office or AUPE Headquarters. You can reach any Regional Office or headquarters by calling the union's toll-free number, 1-800-232-7284. You may also request information by email at info@aupe.org. ![]() Local or Chapter Officer Members of Chapter and Local Executives are elected by their fellow members for two-year terms. They administer the component and ensure that the needs of the members are being met. If you are interested in serving as a Local or Chapter officer, you will need to contact your Local or Chapter's leadership. If you need to find out what Local or Chapter you are a member of, you can call AUPE's toll-free line from anywhere in Alberta - 1-800-232-7284 - or email info@aupe.org. ![]() Union Steward Union Stewards serve as the representative of the union in the workplace. Stewards ensure that their fellow union members receive all their entitlements under their collective agreement and the law. They represent co-workers who face worksite discipline and other problems. Being a Union Steward is a demanding and rewarding job. If you are interested in serving as a Union Steward, you will need to contact your Local or Chapter's leadership. If you need to find out what Local or Chapter you are a member of, you can call AUPE's toll-free line from anywhere in Alberta - 1-800-232-7284 - or email info@aupe.org. AUPE will train you for this important role. ![]() Worksite Contact AUPE maintains a lit of worksite contacts who can distribute union newsletters and other materials to their fellow AUPE members, and who can assist in union campaigns.
