Mobilization 2010

In 2010, AUPE members in all sectors face the toughest economic and political conditions since the mid-1990s, when the government rolled back our wages by 5% and fired thousands of our co-workers.
Premier Ed Stelmach is making even more cutbacks to try to win back political support, despite having an available sustainability fund that could see Albertans through these tough times. This spells bad news for public sector employees.
AUPE is also facing negotiations across all sectors: health care, education, boards and agencies. Tens of thousands of members will go into negotiations under the government services in the fall of 2010. We must stand up for each other so that one sector’s losses do not set a precedent for further cutbacks, freezes and job losses.
This is why AUPE is looking for your involvement – to help us bring our members together on common ground.
The members of AUPE can be an effective voice to their families, friends, and the Alberta government; we must tell them that we need quality public services, especially when the economy is poor.
We cannot rely on the media alone to carry our message. The sound of more than 76,000 voices speaking together can and will have a powerful impact.
AUPE wants you to be one of those voices, starting now.
