A group of new AUPE members took part in an Introduction to AUPE course Nov. 21, in Grande Prairie. The new members came from a mix of worksites and sectors, including direct employees of the provincial government and health care workers who came to the union through the Bill 27 process.

AUPE's Committee On Political Action held a 'Changing Legislation - Lobbying Government' meeting at union headquarters in Edmonton Sept. 3. The meeting was a follow-up to the Political Action Lobbying course held at the 2002 Jasper Labour School. The aims of the meeting included expanding lobbying efforts, setting up a lobby group, and having the course held annually at the labour school.

AUPE Union Representative Jim Petrie, right, conducted a meeting in June with the chairs of groups covered under the Multi-Employer Agreement for Auxiliary Nursing Care employees in Health Region 6. The meeting was held to determine which collective agreement is used the 'receiving agreement' - a starting point for negotiations for a new region-wide bargaining unit agreement - as required by Bill 27 legislation. AUPE has been officially declared as the union to represent ANC employees in Health Region 6.
   
Members from a number of different locals representing the health, boards and agencies, and government services sectors, at a Table Officer's Seminar last month. These seminars provide training for newly elected, and sometimes incumbent, executive council members.
