Labour Relations Board Directive sets dates for runoff vote counts

EDMONTON — The Alberta Labour Relations Board has issued a directive setting dates for counting union-representation runoff vote ballots in the Aspen, Calgary, Capital, David Thompson, East Central and Peace Country health regions.

AUPE had requested that ballot boxes be opened and votes be counted sooner so that the work of health region employees and union representatives could return to normal as soon as possible.

AUPE sees no reason why health region employees should not know the results of their democratic votes.

However, at the request of CUPE, the Alberta Labour Relations Board has delayed the counting of ballots until after CUPE’s five-day National Convention in Quebec City, which runs from Oct. 27 to Oct. 31.

Ballots for all General Support Service units will be counted as follows:

Monday, Nov. 3, 2003
9 a.m. — Capital Health Region
1 p.m. — Calgary Health Region

Tuesday, Nov.4, 2003
Starting 9 a.m. — East Central Health Region, Peace Country Health Region

Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003
Starting at 9 .am. — David Thompson Health Region, Aspen Health Region

Ballots will be counted at the Alberta Labour Relations Board headquarters in Edmonton. AUPE will provide information to members on the vote counts as soon as it is available.
