AUPE Government Service members invited to ‘Going for Gold’ Health and Safety Conference

EDMONTON — AUPE members employed by the provincial government are eligible to attend the second ‘Going for Gold’ Occupational Health and Safety Conference at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton Nov. 6, 2003.

The conference is part of the joint AUPE-Alberta Government’s comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety program. The program celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.

“We hope the conference further promotes health and safety in the workplace for government employees,” said AUPE Union Representative Grace Dykau, a specialist in occupational health and safety issues.

A variety of guest speakers and information sessions are planned, Dykau said. Displays from AUPE, the Alberta Government and safety suppliers will also be on hand.

AUPE is providing morning coffee, briefcases, and stationery supplies for all delegates in order to control costs so more members can attend. More than 300 members are expected at the conference.

The comprehensive OH&S program encompasses health and safety issues such as creating worksite and department health and safety committees, emergency preparedness, and injury and incident reports.

The registration deadline for the conference is Oct. 22, 2003.
