Locked out Teamsters union members back at work

EDMONTON – The lockout of 26 members of Local 362 of the Teamsters union by Burnco Rock Products has come to an end with the drivers back at work and a collective agreement in place.

The Edmonton company locked out its employees at the end of March after the union’s members rejected the company’s final contract offer.

Teamsters Business Agent Keith Norris extended his thanks to members of other unions for their moral, physical and financial support during the lockout.

“A lockout by the employer causes financial problems and emotional stress,” Norris said in a notice to the leaders of other unions. “The support shown by the members of other unions was an overwhelming boost to the members during the lockout period and proves beyond a doubt that the solidarity shown by other unions is still alive in Alberta.”

AUPE President Dan MacLennan, other members of the AUPE executive and AUPE members expressed their support during the labour dispute.

Teamsters Local 362 represents approximately 500 concrete ready mix drivers throughout Alberta and has a total of 5,200 members.
