AUPE policy aims to safeguard the privacy of all members

EDMONTON — AUPE has approved a privacy policy to ensure that the union operates in accordance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

“We are committed as an organization to upholding the law and safeguarding the privacy of all AUPE members,” said AUPE Senior Manager Pamela Kirkwood.

“We view this as not just a legal responsibility, but an ethical one as well,” Kirkwood said.

In accordance with PIPA, AUPE will ensure that any personal information collected about members will be used only for the purposes for which it was collected, she said.

In addition, AUPE has designated a Privacy Officer to deal with privacy issues and compliance with PIPA.
