Nominations sought for 2004 DOVE Award
EDMONTON The AUPE Womens Committee is now accepting nominations
for the 2004 DOVE Award, the annual award created to honour female AUPE
members who have made major contributions to the betterment of women
and others in our union.
Every day at AUPE worksites across Alberta women are making a
difference, said AUPE Vice-President Lynne Gingras, Chair of the
unions Womens Committee. Whether its acting
as a union steward, worksite contact or involving others, these busy
women carve time out of their busy schedules to help others.
The DOVE Award the initials stand for Day of Validation
and Equity gives us an opportunity to honour those women,
Gingras said.
The award, made of etched crystal, was created through a resolution
of AUPEs Convention in 2001. It is part of AUPEs celebration
of International Womens Day in March. A commemorative plaque containing
the name of winners has been placed on the wall at AUPEs Edmonton
Headquarters office.
Any woman who is a former or present member of AUPE is eligible for
the award. Nominations should be approximately 150 words in length
oral or video presentations are acceptable as well. The nomination should
outline the nominees contribution to the betterment of women in
AUPE.
A nomination can be submitted by any member or group of members and
does not have to be passed by your Local Council, although the Womens
Committee encourages consultation.
Please dont hesitate look around your office or worksite
and think about those who make a real difference in your day.
Nominations will be accepted until Feb. 20, 2004. The award will be
presented on March 8, 2004.
