More than 100 AUPE members sign up for Sept. 21 and 22 pension seminars

EDMONTON — More than 100 AUPE members will take part in seminars on a broad range of pension-related issues set for Sept. 21 and 22 in Calgary and Edmonton.

About 50 members registered to participate in the Sept. 21 seminar in Calgary, and more than 60 signed up for the Sept. 22 seminar in Edmonton, said AUPE Executive Secretary-Treasurer Ed Mardell.

Mardell emphasized that the seminars will provide basic pension plan information and discussion of pension-related issues that are important to all AUPE members.

They are not personal pension planning seminars, he explained.

“The objective is to help participants develop a better understanding and commitment to AUPE’s positions on pensions.”

Mardell noted that a panel of pension industry experts will be on hand at both meetings to discuss the challenges facing pension managers and participants.

“These will be valuable to these members, who are clearly concerned that their pension funds are prudently invested and their pensions adequately financed,” Mardell said.

The day-long Sept. 21 Calgary seminar will take place in the Radisson Hotel Calgary Airport. The Edmonton seminar the next day will be held at the Mayfield Inn.
