AUPE members concerned about PSAC strike action should contact stewards

EDMONTON — AUPE members who may be affected by rotating strikes by members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada should contact their union steward, local council representative or union staff representative about how to respond at their worksite.

Members of PSAC, which represents more than 100,000 federal public employees, have been conducting rotating walkouts at locations across Canada. More PSAC members are in a legal strike position today.

Members of PSAC are at different bargaining tables with different federal employers at hundreds of locations throughout Canada. In all cases, the principal issue in negotiations is money.

PSAC officials have advised AUPE that because of the complexity of their negotiations, the large number of worksites involved, many in multi-tenant buildings, and the number of PSAC members required to work during a strike by federal essential-services legislation, it is impossible to work out an Alberta-wide protocol.

As a result, AUPE members in worksites where there may be PSAC picket lines need to talk to their AUPE union steward, local council representative or union staff representative about how to respond.
