U of C TV ads call for proper
funding for post-secondary education
CALGARY — Television ads calling for adequate funding for the
University of Calgary and other Alberta post-secondary institutions
began running on a Calgary television station yesterday.
The 15-second spots — jointly paid for by the U of C students’
association, concerned educators and AUPE Local 052, which represents
non-academic staff at the university — began airing during
the 6 p.m. news hour.
The first ad tells viewers that Alberta’s education system
faces crippling debt due to under-funding.
The second says that the quality of Alberta’s education system
ranks seventh of 10 in Canada and concludes: “It’s embarrassing!”
The ads are being aired on Calgary’s CFCN TV station.
The education cost calculator used to estimate tuition in the ads
can be found by clicking here.
