Pension seminars set for Sept. 21 and 22
EDMONTON — Seminars on a broad range of pension-related issues
of interest to AUPE members will be held on Sept. 21 and 22 in Calgary
and Edmonton.
“These seminars will provide basic pension plan information and
discussion of pension-related issues that are important to all AUPE
members,” said Executive Secretary-Treasurer Ed Mardell. “A
panel of pension industry experts will be on hand to discussion the
challenges facing pension managers and participants.”
Mardell noted that the meetings are not personal pension planning seminars.
“Rather, the objective is to help participants develop a better
understanding and commitment to AUPE’s positions on pensions,”
he said.
“These seminars should be important to anyone concerned that prudently
invested and adequately financed pension plans are available to AUPE
members,” Mardell concluded.
The Calgary seminar will take place Sept. 21 at the Radisson Hotel Calgary
Airport. This seminar is open to AUPE members who live south of Red
Deer.
The Edmonton seminar the next day will be held the Mayfield Inn and
will be open to members who live north of Red Deer.
Red Deer residents may register for either seminar. Both events will
run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Decisions on who will attend the seminars will be made by AUPE locals’
executives. Therefore, registration applications must be sent to your
local chair. The deadline for submission of applications to local executives
is July 30, 2004.
Locals will submit their delegate lists to AUPE Headquarters by Aug.
13.
Mardell noted that AUPE headquarters has agreed to pay the full cost
of one delegate from each local with fewer than 500 members and of two
delegates from each local with more than 500 members. Locals may send
additional delegates at their own expense.
The seminars will be limited to 100 participants.
AUPE will make all conference accommodation arrangements. AUPE pays
for double hotel room occupancy only.
Anyone with questions regarding administration of the seminars should
contact Renee Shaw at 1-800-232-8392, Press 1, 780-930-3404 or r.shaw@aupe.org.
