Alberta Union of Provincial Employees Privacy Policy
The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees is committed to upholding
the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and the protection of
the privacy of all its members.
AUPE recognizes the importance of maintaining confidentiality of personal
information and has taken steps to ensure the collection, use and disclosure
of personal information is done in accordance with the law, and most
importantly, that we meet our ethical responsibility to members’
privacy.
According to the Personal Information Protection Act, personal information
means information about an identifiable individual such as: age, ID
numbers, income, ethnic origin, religion, opinions, disciplinary records,
credit information, medical records, etc. It does not include business
contact information such as name, title, address, or telephone number.
It is important to note that AUPE collects business and personal information
from members and staff, which is necessary to facilitate the day-to-day
servicing functions of this organization on behalf of its members.
(For no other reason will personal information be collected, used, or
disclosed without individual express consent.)
Membership (includes representation in grievances):
AUPE has exclusive authority on behalf of all members to represent them
in their relations with their employers. In fulfilling its duty to represent
members, AUPE will sometimes have to collect, use and/or disclose personal
information of its members. For instance, this would be the case in
representing a member in a grievance, or assisting a member on a disability
claim.
Any personal information collected in these circumstances will only
be used for the purposes for which it was collected.
Any member has the right to refuse to consent to the collection, use
or disclosure of the personal information in these circumstances. Unless
such objection is received, AUPE will assume that members will consent
to AUPE’s collection, use and disclosure of their personal information
as these circumstances arise.

1) AUPE uses our membership database to advise members of various meetings
such as Annual General meetings.
2) AUPE uses our database to issue payment for expense claims.

personal information; it is NEVER shared with outside parties.
