Direct government employees’ ratification vote results available
this afternoon
EDMONTON — The contract ratification vote by members of the Alberta
Union of Provincial Employees directly employed by the Government of
Alberta will be counted this afternoon.
Vote results on the government’s 3.5-per-cent 2004 pay increase
offer are expected by about 2 p.m. AUPE will issue a news release immediately
after the results are known.
Ballots were mailed the week of Feb. 23 to members of each of the nine
AUPE Locals that represent direct employees of the provincial government.
Negotiators for AUPE and the province agreed on Feb. 10 to put the employer
offer to a vote of the membership.
Voter turnout for the ratification vote has been unusually heavy.
