EDMONTON — Alberta Liberal Leader Kevin Taft, New Democrat MLA Brian Mason and Canada West Foundation economist Todd Hirsch will debate the merits of “public-private partnerships” at an important Alberta Union of Provincial Employees conference tomorrow.

The debate will take place at 10:15 a.m., Saturday, June 12, in the Robson Room at the Mayfield Inn & Suites, 16615 — 109 Ave. in Edmonton.

At 11 a.m., Taft will address AUPE’s Anti-Privatization Conference on P3s, the controversial approach to building and operating public facilities.

Media are welcome to attend both events. Both will be followed by questions from the floor.
The Anti-Privatization Conference is one of three AUPE conferences being held concurrently at the same location. More than 300 AUPE members from throughout Alberta are gathering this evening to take part in the weekend conferences on the fight against privatization of public services, women’s issues in the workplace and occupational health and safety.

Full agendas are available on AUPE’s website — www.aupe.org.

AUPE President Dan MacLennan will be available for media interviews throughout the conferences. Media wishing to arrange an interview with MacLennan should call him on his cellular phone — 780-232-8392.
