AUPE members to vote on 3.5% Government of Alberta offer

EDMONTON — Alberta Union of Provincial Employees members employed directly for the provincial government will vote on a 3.5 per cent wage offer for 2003.

Members of AUPE’s General Service Bargaining Committee and Government of Alberta negotiators agreed today that the 3.5-per-cent wage increase for the last year of the existing three-year collective agreement would be presented to the members of AUPE Locals 001 to 012 for a vote.

The union will recommend neither acceptance nor rejection of the 2003 wage-reopener agreement by its members, AUPE President Dan MacLennan said today.

Details of the exact dates on which ballots will be mailed to the approximately 21,000 direct government employees will be made available next week.

In a wage reopener, the union and employer agree to negotiate wages for the last year of a collective agreement, leaving all other provisions of the contract in place.

The current agreement, signed in November 2001, expires on Aug. 31, 2004.
