CALGARY — Rain or shine, members of Local 052 of the Alberta
Union of Provincial Employees at the University of Calgary will hold
their second annual member appreciation barbecue next Tuesday.
As many as 1,200 AUPE members and guests are expected to turn up for
free burgers — 100 per cent Alberta beef or veggie — from
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the South Lawn of the MacEwan Student Centre.
Members of Local 052 — which represents more than 2,800 U of C
non-academic employees — and U of C trust employees are invited
to the event.
Last year, more than 800 people turned up for the member appreciation
barbecue, “which was such an overwhelming event we decided to
make it an annual occasion,” said organizer Nancy Ritchie.
“This will provide an opportunity for all U of C support staff
to meet one another in a social setting,” Ritchie said.
AUPE President Dan MacLennan will be in Calgary for the event, and will
be available for media interviews.
A shuttle bus has been chartered to make sure U of C employees at off-campus
locations can attend the event.
