AUPE welcomes new members in Hinton

HINTON – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees welcomes a new component at an assisted-living facility in Hinton, where employees voted overwhelmingly this afternoon to join Alberta’s largest union.

"We’re very pleased to welcome these new AUPE members, who saw the value of union membership and identified AUPE as the union offering the best service to members, and took the courageous action to join," AUPE President Dan MacLennan said after the vote.

The new members are all employees of the Mountain View Centre, opened recently by the Good Samaritan Society in the community about 300 kilometres west of Edmonton. Today’s certification vote was ordered by the Alberta Labour Relations Board after an organizing drive at the facility.

AUPE is Alberta’s largest union, with approximately 53,000 members.
