Votes of AUPE members at Foothills and Children’s hospitals to be counted tonight

CALGARY – Results of voting on a mediator’s recommended settlement by members of Local 055 of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees at the Foothills Hospital and Alberta Children’s Hospital will be counted this evening.

On-site voting took place Thursday and continues today at the two Calgary hospitals.

AUPE officials expect that the result of the vote will be available by about 9:30 p.m.

Media interested in the outcome can call AUPE President Dan MacLennan, who will be in the union’s Calgary Regional Office and available for interviews after the vote result is known. MacLennan may be contacted on his cellular phone: 780-910-8392.

In addition, Staff Negotiator Karen Thibault will be available by cellular phone; 403-816-7852.
If both AUPE members and the Calgary Health Region ratify the mediator’s recommendation, it will become the basis for a new three-year contract between the parties.

AUPE represents approximately 2,800 employees at both hospitals – including general support staff at the children’s hospital and both general support and licensed practical nurses, nursing attendants and others at the Foothills.
