AUPE members, Alberta Cancer Board both ratify three-year agreement
EDMONTON Members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees
and the Alberta Cancer Board have both ratified a three-year collective
agreement.
The agreement will give ACB employees in all classifications pay increases
of four per cent in the first year, three per cent in the second year
and three per cent in the third year of the agreement, said AUPE President
Dan MacLennan.
In addition, classification adjustments for clerical workers will result
in a range of larger pay increases over the life of the agreement for
some employees, said AUPE Union Representative Mike Boyle, who negotiated
the agreement.
The agreement, which was reached after AUPE applied for the services
of a government-appointed mediator, will come into affect on May 1,
2003, Boyle said.
Other improvements in the agreement include improvements in the health
benefits plans of members and increases in shift and weekend differential
pay to $1.75 per hour, Boyle said.
"This agreement brings the pay and benefits of members of the various
functional bargaining units at the Alberta Cancer Board into line with
the provincial standards for employees doing similar work for the health
regions," he said.
Chapters 018 ad 019 of AUPE Local 047 represent more than 400 employees
of the Alberta Cancer Board, most at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton
and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary.
