AUPE members in northern Alberta ratify new contract

PEACE RIVER – Members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees who work for the County of Saddle Hills have ratified a three-year collective agreement that gives them pay increases of four per cent in each year.

"This is part of a continuing pattern of significant contract improvements that AUPE has negotiated for employees of municipalities, boards and agencies throughout Alberta," said AUPE President Dan MacLennan.

In addition to the pay increases of four per cent a year, the 36 members of AUPE Local 118/006 will receive improvements in incumbency pay, safety shoe allowances, advancement provisions for part time and term employees, and maternity and parental leave provisions, said Gil Laflamme, a Membership Services Officer in AUPE’s Peace River office.

"The members were quite pleased with this agreement," Laflamme said. "It’s in line with the settlements we’ve been getting in the sector."

Saddle Hills County is located in the area surrounding the community of Spirit River, about 140 kilometres west of Peace River.
