AUPE reaches tentative agreement at Lethbridge nursing home
LETHBRIDGE Negotiators for members of the Alberta Union of Provincial
Employees employed at the Edith Cavell Care Centre have reached a tentative
agreement with the nursing homes operator.
"This deal has been two years in the making, and at times bargaining
has been an extremely frustrating process," AUPE President Dan MacLennan
said today. "However, Im confident that the members will be
happy with the deal their bargaining team has brought them."
"These workers really deserve our congratulations for their courage
and determination in bringing these negotiations to a successful close,"
said Dale Perry, AUPE Membership Services Officer in Lethbridge.
Details of the agreement reached Wednesday afternoon will not be made
public until the approximately 100 workers at the facility, which is operated
by British Columbia-based Chantelle Management Ltd., have had the opportunity
to examine and vote on the deal.
A ratification vote is scheduled for Feb. 12, 2002.
The members of AUPE Local 058/027 held an information picket at the Lethbridge
nursing home just last week to draw attention to the drawn-out nature
of the negotiations for a first collective agreement.
