International Women’s Day marked with new DOVE Award

EDMONTON – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees will commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8 with the introduction of a new award to be called the AUPE DOVE Award.
The award – its initials stand for the Day of Validation and Equity Award – will be presented to a female member of AUPE who has contributed to the betterment of women within our union, said Vice-President and Women’s Committee Chair Lynne Gingras.

Approval of the award was passed by delegates to AUPE’s 2001 Annual Convention in January on the recommendation of the Women’s Committee.

Nominations are now being accepted, and can be submitted by using the electronic form with this story – click here.

Nominations are open to all female, regular members in good standing of AUPE, except members currently serving on the Women’s Committee..

Nominations must be accompanied by an up-to-date profile of the nominee of approximately 150 words in length. The profile should outline the nominee’s contribution to the betterment of women within AUPE.

Nominations may be submitted by any AUPE member or group of members.
The deadline for nominations is February 10, 2002.

A winner will be chosen from the candidates by the members of the Women’s Committee.
"It’s important that we adequately recognize the vital contribution women make to our union," Gingras said. "This award is a small, formal step toward that goal."

The award will be presented at union headquarters on March 8, 2002.
